I’ve recently learned that 5 AM is for:
Waiting for the sunrise inside. Sitting with someone in the dark so close you can hear them breathe. Not talking, just enjoying each other. Making circles on their arms with your fingers just so you can touch them. Having them do the same. Staring at them without feeling embarrassed. Wondering if they’re staring at you too. Having them fall asleep on your shoulder, or hugging you for unmeasured amounts of time while you comb through their hair with your fingers. Having them ease their hand to yours. Lacing fingers. Holding them while they stroke the nape of your neck. Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in opposite directions and being too shy for anything else.
6 AM is for going outside and seeing that the sun rose already, but not being upset.
